History

The Pillars of the Earth, the musical is a story set in 12th century England, during the English anarchy. A masterpiece that intertwines the life of Tom Builder, an ambitious builder whose dream is to build a Gothic cathedral in Kingsbridge. The fight for survival in a period of chaos is highlighted, where the priory emerges as a symbol of stability and architectural ambition in the midst of disorder.

The plot is intertwined with feudal violence, power conflicts and struggles for supremacy between nobles, kings and the Church, constantly challenging Tom’s dreams. Love, death, intertwined passions and ambitions unfold as the construction of the cathedral becomes the central axis of the story.

The musical

The pillars of the earth, the musical will have an immersive staging capable of taking the viewer on an epic journey through 12th century England, immersing them in a story of ambition, love and struggle for architectural greatness through 360º projections and surround sound.

It uses artificial intelligence (AI) tools to turn the EDP Gran Vía Theater into an immense stage and place the viewer at the center of the action. The production has a team of more than 70 people, including the cast, artistic team, special effects specialists and fencing professionals, who will choreograph the fight scenes.

The production company is already known for bringing to the stage original musicals and its own 100% Spanish production titles based on some of the best-selling books of the 20th century. The musical will condense the more than a thousand pages into a show that will represent on stage the greatness of a medieval adventure full of political plots and impossible loves.

The musical, which is executive produced by Dario Regattieri, has a budget of 4 million euros. It has the music of Iván Macías and the lyrics of Félix Amador who will transport us to a world of kings, power struggles, castles and great passions around the construction of a cathedral. Ricardo S. Cuerda is responsible for the set design and Felipe Ramos for the lighting design.
